When You Miss All The Signs and Have To Laugh at Yourself

When You Miss All The Signs and Have To Laugh at Yourself

When I was a child I loved school.

I can remember when I was 10yrs old telling my friends that I wanted to go to University. I have no idea where this desire came from, as neither of my parents went to University and I don’t ever remember them encouraging me to do so, but it was just something I knew I wanted.

And I did it – twice. Two degrees later and I still love learning.

In fact, sometimes feel a little sad, that there is no way that I can possibly learn about everything that I’m interested in, let alone read all of the books that I want to, in just one lifetime.

Unfortunately my love of education and knowledge wasn’t always celebrated when I was a child, and I can totally relate to this quote from Harry Potter:

"That is the second time you have spoken out of turn, Miss Granger," said Snape coolly. "Five more points from Gryffindor for being an insufferable know-it-all."

In fact when I was at school I remember getting 97% in a mock GCSE exam, and being embarrassed to tell people, in case they thought I was ‘showing off’.

However, this never deterred me from learning.

If learning and education is something I love, the only thing to top this is my love of books and my book collection! I have hundreds of books! And now I can download them right to my kindle, I have lots (maybe an understatement) on there too – but I do still prefer paper books!

“What are you doing with all those books anyway?” Ron asked.
“Just trying to decide which ones to take with us,” said Hermione, “when we’re looking for the Horcruxes.”
“Oh, of course,” said Ron, clapping a hand to his forehead. “I forgot we’ll be hunting down Voldemort in a mobile library.” ~ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

When I was 21 yrs old I was initiated into the healing art of Sekham (like Reiki, but Egyptian in origin), and the lady leading the course told me that I was a teacher.

At the time I scoffed at the idea.

I couldn’t think of anything worse! My limited idea of teaching involved teaching in a regular school, because back then I hadn’t known that I could teach at The SHEro Mystery School!

Ironically, even though I ‘knew’ I’d never be a teacher, the job I had been doing was as an outdoor activity instructor, teaching climbing, abseiling, and fencing. I had loved it and was very good at it too - I could get anyone down an abseiling tower, no matter how terriefied they were to start with, and they'd enjoy it so much they'd always want another go!

I didn’t even think of this as teaching!

Then later when I worked in management, my favourite part of the job was putting together training material and delivering the teaching.

Again I never really thought about this as teaching!

Looking back this makes me chuckle.

All the signs were there that I would make a great teacher and enjoy it, but I just wasn’t putting the dots together.

Has there been part of your life that you have been teased about, tried to hide or totally resisted? If so, if you were to look deeper, I bet one of your own Super SHEro Powers lies within!

Over the years I have become extremely tuned into my intuition, and have learnt to listen to and decipher the messages I receive, and most importantly I have learnt to trust them.

One of those messages was to create an online school.

I originally wanted to do this about 5 years ago, but a coach I was working with at the time, told me that no-one would be interested in a 'school' because it was ‘boring’ and had too many negative connotations for people.

Looking back, I can't believe that I chose to listen to that advice!!

These days I know so much better than to take someone else’s ideas as the ‘rules’ for what I create.

So when I had an unshakable idea to create SHEro Summer School, think Hogwarts but for SHEroes, within a day I had the syllabus outlined, and the very next day I invited some people to join the School and I instantly had sign-ups!

This proved two things to me:

  1. Always listen to your own intuition, even if it makes no sense to those around you

  2. Follow the ideas that light you up

Another reason I know that this is the perfect offering for me to create is because I keep getting more and more fun ideas (some people may call them 'downloads'), to make SHEro Summer School even more amazing for the women that join me.

I know that not everyone has such fond memories of school, and weren’t as lucky to have the inspiring teachers that I did.

So I created SHEro Summer School with all of the great things about school that I loved, and the BEST thing is that I got to pick lessons and topics that I LOVE, and know will be great fun to teach!

This school is where the magic happens.

Boring subjects have been replaced with exciting, interesting and very useful topics such as:

  • The History of SHEroes
  • Transfiguration - where you will change the stories that you tell yourself, transforming the stories that you've outgrown, aren't yours or no longer serve you.
  • Charms
  • Potions
  • Defence Against the Dark Arts  - where you'll learn how to protect yourself from the dark arts of self-sabotage, and self-doubt.

And fun weekly lessons:

  • Dream Wild
  • Dragon Slaying (obviously only the bad kind)
  • Honour Your Sacred Self
  • The Power of Being a Woman
  • Coming Home to Yourself

Alongside celebrations, and of course it wouldn’t be school without a Graduation party!

In SHEro School the idea isn’t to make you learn how to retain and recite information that you might not use again, but it’s an experiential immersion into tools, topics and stories that will help you to turn off the noise in your head, so that you can more deeply connect to your heart and intuition.

Peace, Joy and Connection are the goals here, not just another piece of paper (although you’ll get that too!)

So if this sounds like the kind of fun learning adventure, you'd like to experience, then why not check out the Summer School program here and discover your own SHEro Super Powers!
